Kalakari anarkali
$1,699.00
Kalakari translates to artistry, and this anarkali is our clearest argument for the word. The base is pure raw silk in a deep royal blue, and across it artisans layer three distinct hand techniques: gota, the ribbon appliqué of Rajasthan; dori, dimensional cord embroidery; and resham, fine silk threadwork that fills the motifs with color. Three crafts, one canvas, hundreds of hours.
An anarkali is the great romantic silhouette of Indian dress: fitted through the bodice, then released into a full, floor-sweeping flare that moves half a beat behind you. This one is a genuine occasion piece, the kind worn by the sister of the bride, the bride at her sangeet, or anyone who wants the gravity of a lehenga with the grace of a gown.
Royal blue with gold-toned gota is a combination that needs almost nothing added. Jhumkas, a kundan cuff if you like, and heels you can actually stand in for hours.
Kalakari is made entirely to order, handcrafted in India across 4 to 6 weeks, and priced for what it truly is: a couture-level piece you will keep for decades and lend to no one.
